Survey: Local TV Newscasts Devalue Sports
The telephone survey, conducted by the Center for Sports Journalism at Penn State, was completed by 216 sports directors, anchors and reporters. Many respondents believe their role is diminishing and that someday sports may not be part of the local television newscast.
Smaller colleges putting their sports online
Many colleges and universities that whose sporting events are not televised have hit upon another solution; they make their games available for viewing on the Internet.
MLB audio coming to Sprint phones
Under the deal, scheduled to be announced Wednesday, the local flagship station broadcasts will be available for all 30 teams for each game. The service will likely launch in mid-August, Sprint spokesman Dave Mellin said Tuesday.

“The website launch comes as the FCC Thursday ordered Time Warner to reinstate the NFL Network on the systems it has newly acquired from Adelphia and Comcast until the FCC can act on an NFL petition for an emergency ruling on their carriage dispute.”
